If you want to know the best jobs or top paying careers according to various financial magazines, all you have to do is search the web. But understand that you might not find the hidden gem – the career that provides you with unlimited earning power, freedom, quality of lifestyle, and the ability to truly help others.
In 2017 CNN Money published this list. However, the insurance industry was missing, and that’s a big mistake. If you want to know about an industry and the potential for a top paying career, go to the source.
I have more than three decades of experience in the insurance industry as a top producer and manager. So, let’s take a look at some of the benefits of a career in insurance using real data from our agency.
Financial: In our agency alone, compare the income of the listed top 100 jobs in America to the income of our top five licensed agents. (Median $414,976)
Our median income, including all agents who have been producing for two years, is $161,169. (*Based on our agency of 16 insurance agents)
Job Security: Nearly every agent in our agency earns more each year than the previous year. And, depending on your income desire, we can meet your needs as there are no limits to your growth or earnings.
Motivated and professional agents design their destiny; they build a lucrative career by re-investing some of their earnings. This allows them to do what they love in their job, such as meeting with clients and building relationships. They employ staff to assist with other necessary areas such as service work.
During downturns in the economy, our insurance agents have thrived because insurance is a must. The trusted relationships our agents build with clients allows them to offer advice about how to preserve wealth using insurance products during any financial crisis. That creates job security.
Recognition: Our team receives agency awards and bonuses, regional awards, national awards, profit bonuses, and trip awards. The awards bring high-end trips, well-deserved recognition, and more money! Here’s a look at where our high-producing agents have gone in the last several years.
Past Company Trips
- San Francisco (2019)
- Silversea MUSE cruise of the Caribbean (2018)
- Washington, DC (2017)
- Hawaii (2016)
- Kauai/Maui (2015)
- Rome (2014)
- Key Biscayne (2013)
- Athens/Greek Isle Cruise (2012)
Freedom: The ability to set your own schedule and “be your own boss” is for some people as meaningful as the financial rewards. But, let’s be real; in the beginning, you must double-down to succeed. Any best job or top paying career on any list will require dedication, a lot of learning, and time spent building your business.
The more time you spend launching your insurance agency, the sooner you create financial success and win back your time and freedom.
For me, this career has allowed me to be there for my children, family, and friends. I have the freedom and money to travel, find new hobbies, and exercise at my gym of choice. These things are priceless to me, and they are why I’ve chosen a career in insurance. My job as an insurance agent and manager has provided me balance and a standard of living, unlike any other profession.
Gratitude: Among many more I could write about, the last that tops my list is the sense of pride and satisfaction I get from helping others.
When death happens or disaster strikes, my profession as an insurance agent becomes the most fulfilling for me. While the tragedy is sad, my ability to help clients financially recover is what makes me grateful that I chose this career.
When you genuinely care about helping people more than you care about making a sale, you have found the real reason to become an insurance agent.
If you’re considering a career as an insurance agent, ask yourself these questions:
- Do you find yourself rising to the top of whatever challenge you undertake?
- Do you love communicating and connecting with people?
- Do you want to be known as the person who can help protect others?
- Do you want to bring value to your community?
- Do you want the financial rewards and freedoms mentioned in this article?
- Do you desire to do something special with your life?
- Do you wish to be an entrepreneur and have ownership of your destiny?
If you answered yes to all of these questions, then go out and interview with the top five insurance companies in your area. Find the one that is the right fit. Find the perfect vehicle that will allow you the opportunity to meet your dreams and goals while helping others.
Be sure to interview the insurance companies. Ask, “Who succeeds in this company, and why?” Find out how a new agent succeeds. Are there special training programs, enhanced commission structures, mentors, and leaders in the agency? Remember, without this you will likely fail. But if you have a leadership team and insurance agent mentors who work side-by-side to guide you through the early stages of building a lucrative and thriving insurance career, you’ll likely succeed.
Most importantly, learn the requirements of an insurance salesperson. Ask yourself how much you’re willing to give to receive the rewards of a successful career in insurance.
